Preventive Care

for growing, happy kids

From a baby's first checkup through the teenage years, preventive care is the foundation of lifelong health — early screening, timely immunizations, and practical guidance for every stage of childhood.

Most childhood health problems are easier to prevent — or treat early — than to manage later. Regular well-visits help us catch small issues before they become big ones, keep vaccinations on schedule, and give you a trusted place to ask the questions every parent has.

Well-Child Visits

Routine checkups from newborn through adolescence, following the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) schedule.

  • Age-appropriate physical examinations
  • Growth tracking — height, weight, head size, BMI
  • Developmental milestone review
  • Anticipatory guidance for what comes next

Immunizations

We follow CDC and AAP immunization schedules to protect your child against serious preventable illnesses.

  • Routine childhood vaccines
  • Catch-up schedules
  • Adolescent boosters & HPV
  • Annual flu shots

Developmental & Behavioral Screening

Early identification makes a big difference. We screen at key ages for:

  • Speech, motor, cognitive, social milestones
  • Autism screening at 18 & 24 months
  • Behavioral & emotional well-being
  • School readiness & learning concerns

Vision, Hearing & Sensory Screening

Clear vision and hearing are essential for learning. We perform age-appropriate screenings and refer to pediatric ophthalmology or audiology when needed.

Physical Health Screenings

Comprehensive preventive assessments that go beyond the basics.

  • Blood pressure — from age 3
  • BMI & obesity screening
  • Lipid, anemia, lead, diabetes labs
  • TB risk assessment
  • Spirometry (lung function)
  • EKG for sports clearance

Preventive Labs & Panels

In-office or referred lab work for routine screening — cholesterol, anemia, lead exposure, diabetes risk, and other age-appropriate tests recommended by national guidelines.

Counseling & Anticipatory Guidance

Preventive care isn't just about tests — it's also about giving families practical, age-appropriate guidance. At every visit, we take time to counsel on:

🦷 Dental Health

Oral hygiene habits, first dental visit timing, fluoride recommendations, and referrals to trusted pediatric dentists.

🛡️ Safety & Injury Prevention

Age-appropriate guidance on car-seat safety, home-proofing for toddlers, bike and helmet safety, water safety, screen-time boundaries, and teen-driver safety.

🥗 Nutrition & Lifestyle

  • Breastfeeding and infant-feeding guidance
  • Introducing solid foods and healthy eating habits
  • Obesity prevention and family nutrition counseling
  • Physical-activity recommendations for every age
  • Sleep hygiene and healthy daily routines

Confidential, Judgment-Free Visits for Teens

The teenage years bring new health questions. We offer private, one-on-one time during adolescent visits so teens can talk openly with their provider — because honest conversations lead to healthier choices.

Our adolescent preventive services include:

  • Confidential visits — private time with the provider
  • Mental health screening — depression, anxiety, stress
  • Sexual health counseling and STI screening
  • HPV vaccination to prevent several cancers later in life
  • Substance use screening — tobacco, alcohol, vaping, drugs
  • Sports physicals and athletic clearance
  • Guidance on relationships, body image, social media, and transition to adult care

Newborn Screening Follow-Up

Every baby born in New Jersey undergoes state-mandated newborn screening. We review those results with you, follow up on any abnormal findings, and coordinate further testing or specialist referrals so your newborn gets the right care from day one.

Metabolic & Genetic Screening

When family history or clinical findings suggest a higher risk, we arrange metabolic and genetic screening with trusted pediatric specialists. Early identification of inherited conditions allows for earlier treatment, better outcomes, and informed family planning.
